Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Oakland Owner’s Guide

Elite keypad and intercom repair in Oakland typically runs $280-$520 installed, depending on whether the issue is a failed membrane, corroded backplane, or full intercom head replacement. We stock Elite-compatible keypads and intercom modules on our trucks, and most repairs are completed same-day once the model is confirmed. Most Oakland homeowners realize their Elite access control has failed when the gate stops responding to keypad codes but still works with remotes, or when visitors press the intercom button and hear nothing from the house.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite has produced several keypad and intercom lines over the years, and the part you need depends on which generation is mounted at your gate. The Elite Miracle-One series (common on residential swing and slide gates from 2008-2016) uses a sealed membrane keypad with a four-wire intercom loop. The Elite CSW-200 and CSW-24 operators often pair with the Elite 2000 Series keypad, which has a wider faceplate and a different mounting hole pattern than the Miracle-One. Newer Elite Robo-Slide and Elite Robo-Swing installations may use the Elite OSCO keypad line, which carries a distinct rectangular housing and a separate intercom module.

To identify your unit, check the label inside the keypad housing (usually visible after removing two faceplate screws) or measure the cutout dimensions: Miracle-One keypads need a 2.75-inch by 4.5-inch opening, while the 2000 Series requires 3.25 inches by 5 inches. We carry both OEM Elite parts and quality aftermarket equivalents from Security Brands and EMX. For intercom modules, we generally recommend OEM Elite boards because the audio impedance matching is finicky with third-party substitutes. For keypads, aftermarket membranes often outlast OEM in Oakland’s marine-layer moisture, so we stock both and price them separately.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Keypad buttons require multiple presses or feel mushy. This usually means the silicone membrane beneath the buttons has hardened from UV exposure and Oakland’s temperature swings. The membrane is a $45-$75 part, but the labor to open the housing and reseat the ribbon cable properly is where the real work is.
  • Intercom crackles, cuts out, or produces no audio. The two-wire loop between gate and house is often the culprit, especially in older Oakland hills properties where rodents have chewed through low-voltage cable. We test continuity with a tone generator before quoting a replacement.
  • Gate opens with the remote but not with the keypad code. This points to a failed relay on the keypad’s output board or corrupted memory in the access controller. Elite keypads store codes in EEPROM, which can fail after roughly 8-12 years of write cycles.
  • Backlight works but no tones or response. The microcontroller is likely alive but the button matrix or speaker circuit has failed. We’ve seen this after water intrusion in Miracle-One units where the gasket compressed and lost its seal.
  • Visitor presses intercom, you answer, but the gate won’t release from the house station. This is almost always a dry contact failure in the intercom’s gate-release circuit, not a gate motor problem. The fix is a $30 relay on the intercom board, but accessing it without damaging the housing takes the right tools.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range (Oakland)
Elite keypad membrane replacement $280-$360
Full Elite keypad/intercom head swap $380-$520
Intercom board repair (relay/contact replacement) $240-$320
Low-voltage cable run (gate to house, per foot) $4-$7

These prices include parts, labor, testing of all codes and intercom functions, and cleanup. What drives the range: whether we can reuse the existing mounting box and conduit, whether the intercom cable needs replacement, and whether your Elite unit is a current or obsolete part number. Before we touch anything, you get a written price under Haven Standard Clause 1. That price is what you pay. We also document the before condition, the part number installed, and the final test results with photos, under Clause 4.

All Elite keypad and intercom work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the new membrane delaminates, the intercom crackles, or a code stops working within a year, we fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check whether the keypad has power at the terminal block (look for 16-24 VAC between the red and black wires with the gate in standby), and you can verify that the intercom cable isn’t visibly chewed or disconnected at the house station. What you should not do: open the sealed keypad housing without a torque-limiting driver, because the screw bosses crack easily, or attempt to solder the intercom board relay yourself. The low-voltage side is safe to touch, but miswiring the keypad output can backfeed 24 VAC into the access controller and fry a $400 board.

We’ve replaced enough cracked Miracle-One housings and repaired enough controller damage from DIY attempts that we’ll say it plainly: if the fix involves more than checking power and connections, call us. We’ll name the part, name the price, and leave you a photo record of what we found. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs.
